Randori Dojo

Randori Dojo, based in Dalkeith, Midlothian is a not for profit business that provides jodo classes to people of all ages. The high electrical costs of running a large electrically-heated space meant that they had little choice but to increase their membership costs. Given that their building is rented from Midlothian Council, they had assumed that they would not get permission for solar, and even if they did, the time to pay back the investment would make it impractical.

However, they secured CARES funding from Local Energy Scotland to cover 80% of the costs and did fundraising for the rest. Midlothian Council proved to be very happy to allow tenants to install energy efficiency improvements on their buildings.

We installed a system that made maximum use of their roof space allowing Randori Dojo to minimise their electricity costs and even sell electricity to the grid at a profit to allow further investment into the building, increase their services and of course, keep membership fees down.
